How do I purchase a device from my school?
So, you'd like to purchase a school-owned device for your personal use — good news, you're in the right place. The first step is asking your Administration if they're willing to sell you the device.
Once appoved, we always recommend someone create a bill of sale, as it can help with future warranty, insurance, and/or police matters. This should include:
- Date of sale
- Seller's name
- Buyer's name
- Sale price
- Description of device (including manufacturer and model)
- Device serial number
It's important to note, school-owned devices must be erased when they no longer belong to the school. This is a critical step in the device lifecycle for the following reasons:
- Erasing the device removes the school's remote monitoring and management capabilities used by Classmate
- Erasing the device removes all school and student data, an important step for provincial and federal privacy laws
- Erasing the device removes all school-owned software licenses, freeing them up for use on new school-owned devices.
The school's management system allows us to erase the device remotely at any time.
It's important you organize a time with us to erase the device, and you should backup any files you'd like to keep ahead of that time.
