How do I change or reset my Apple ID password?

Your Apple ID is the account that you use for everything you do with Apple, like when you shop the iTunes Store, sign in to iCloud, buy an app, run App Store updates, and more. To reset your password, you need to know the email address for your Apple ID. (If you're not sure what your Apple ID is, click here for support).

 

If you forgot your Apple ID password

If you have issues when you try to sign in with your Apple ID password, use these steps to reset it and regain access to your account.

  • Go to iforgot.apple.com, enter the email address you use for your Apple ID, type the characters you see in the image, and click continue
  • Choose how to reset your password:
    • To answer your security questions, select "Answer security questions" and follow the rest of the steps.
    • To get a reset email instead, select "Get an email." To reset your password, check your primary or rescue email, and follow the steps to reset your password. If you didn't receive your reset email, click here.

 

If you want to change your password

If you know your Apple ID password and want to change it, follow these steps.

On your Mac:

  1. Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
  2. In the Security section, click Change Password.
  3. Enter your current password, then enter a new password and confirm the new password.
  4. Click Change Password.
